I lived, prayed, laughed, cried, and answered my deepest heart’s calling at Standing Rock from November 2016 - January 2017 (Yes, during the winter!) Camp felt like living in a world I always knew to be true. We call each other relatives, because when you support each other emotionally, spiritually, and are willing to risk your body and livelihood for people you don’t know, and for water - we quickly become family. It was a unity like I’ve never experienced before. For the first time, I could turn to a stranger, and call them brother/sister with sincerity and authenticity.

Camp is run on prayers, gratitude and synchronicity. We start each conversation with “Thank you for being here. Thank you for standing for our water. Hello, my name is Colleen.” Money is not used at camp. Everything we could ever want is in abundance because everyone only takes what they need. We feel safe to ask for what we need, because there is a knowing that the family around us (whether we know them or not) will take care of us, as we take care of them. It is not about exchange. It’s about serving each other.

Now, the prayers from camp, all that we’ve learned, all that we became and rose to, has spread throughout the world. Recognize each other. Look deeply in each other's eyes and see each other’s soul. Because, as the prophecy says, we are the 7th generation. We are the ones we have been waiting for.
